Our new telephone system is now up and running!

You’ll notice that we have introduced a queuing system, so you will be able to see exactly where you are in the queue.  For repeat medication queries please ring 01225 703183 rather than the surgery.

You will be able to choose from the following options:

Option 1 – Cancel an appointment. This will divert you to a voicemail where you can leave your name, date of birth, date and time of your appointment

Option 2 – Home visit requests (before 10:30), appointments, general enquiries

Option 3 – Test results, this line will only be available after 4pm

Option 4 – Queries about hospital referrals

Thank you for your patience whilst we get to grips with the new system.

I’d like to inform our patients and primary care colleagues that Dr Rob Matthews will be retiring from Spa Medical Centre on June 30th this year.

Rob trained as a Doctor at St Mary’s Hospital, London. He trained as a GP in Trowbridge and has worked at Spa Medical Centre since 1991.

During his 31 years at Spa, Rob has delivered high quality healthcare both at the practice and his numerous other roles. He has been extremely influential in effecting positive change in the local health community, along with an active involvement in practice-based commissioning, shaping local health services for the benefit of the local population.

Throughout his 31 years in general practice, he has been an inspiration to us all. A fantastic caring Doctor, he’s delivered consistently high-quality clinical treatment and care to his patients, specialising in joint injections, care of the elderly, cancer care, hypertension, and orthopaedics. Rob has also been instrumental in delivering the Vasectomy service at Spa, which has been a huge success.

He has also been involved in GP and Nurse training and mentorship, many local GP’s and Nurses have been mentored by him, successfully gaining their accreditation or qualification with his support.

A keen and capable sailor, skier, and mountain biker, Rob is looking forward to having more time to pursue his interests.

I am sure both patients and colleagues will join me in thanking him for his commitment, passion, and care during his career.

We wish him a healthy, happy retirement and the best of luck with the next chapter.

The NHS and Public Health England (PHE) are extremely well prepared for outbreaks of new infectious diseases. The NHS has put in place measures to ensure the safety of all patients and NHS staff while also ensuring services are available to the public as normal.

What to do if you have symptoms

If you have symptoms of COVID-19 however mild, self-isolate for at least 10 days from when your symptoms started. You should arrange to have a test to see if you have COVID-19 – go to testing portal online to arrange. Do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital.

You do not need to contact NHS 111 to tell them you're staying at home.

Read the advice about staying at home.

Use the NHS 111 online coronavirus service if:

  • you feel you cannot cope with your symptoms at home
  • your condition gets worse
  • your symptoms do not get better after 7 days

Use the 111 coronavirus service

Due to extreme pressures with the Coronavirus pandemic, we are unable to issue any urgent repeat medications.  All repeat requests will be a minimum of 2 working days.
