Dr Adrian Curtis is a practicing general practitioner with a specific interest in carpal tunnel assessment and surgery.

Carpal Tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a relatively common condition that causes a tingling sensation, numbness and sometimes pain in the hand and fingers.  Usually, these sensations develop gradually and start off being worse during the night.  They tend to affect the thumb, index finger and middle finger.

The median nerve passes through a tight space at the wrist called the carpal tunnel - occasionally it becomes compressed in this tunnel.  Some settle with splinting, others with tablets and others following a steroid injection into the tunnel itself.  However, when symptoms persist despite these medical measures, it is necessary to decompress the nerve surgically.

This will be done under a local anaesthetic taking approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour in total.

We carry out patient satisfaction questionnaires pre-operatively, on operation day and 3 months post-operatively.

We pride ourselves on providing a personal approach with flexibility to accommodate patient's requirements regarding both dates and times.  We can offer a first assessment appointment within 2-4 weeks of referral, with the operation just 2-4 weeks after and follow up 2 weeks later.

Spa Medical Centre has provided GP led Skin Cancer surgery since 2004 and is a member of the skin cancer multi-disciplinary team (MDT) based at the Royal United Hospital (RUH) Bath.

Spa Medical Centre has been carrying out excision/biopsy of lumps and bumps since 2004.  We offer a one stop shop for minor operations.

Dr Fiona Armstrong & Dr Roland Teare are both practicing general practitioners with a specific interest in dermatology and minor surgical procedures.

We offer a wide range of skin surgery procedures including excision of some skin cancers to people in the Wiltshire area.  We accept referrals from Wiltshire GP practices and Consultant Dermatologists from all the neighbouring hospitals.

We are active members of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) for skin cancer based at the Royal United Hospital in Bath with excellent working relationships with our secondary care colleagues.

We also work very closely with a plastic surgery provider Cotswold Surgical Partners (CSP) who perform more complex surgery from our facility.

All our procedures are carried out under local anaesthetic so please eat and drink normally on your operation day.  Due to health and safety policy and procedures we are unable to have children in the theatre room.  If the procedure is near to the eye, please ensure a representative drives you.

Cotswold Surgical Partners (CSP)

Cotswold Surgical Partners was formed in 2011 by three Specialists who all worked for the NHS in nearby local Trusts’. They have been working in partnership with Spa Medical Centre in Melksham since 2015.

CSP provides both a consultant led Skin Cancer Plastic Surgery service as well as clinic-based Dermatology care. The aim is to provide NHS patients with a locally delivered skin cancer and Dermatology service, which is not only of a high quality but is also delivered in a timely fashion.

In partnership with Spa Medical Centre, they strive to maintain a high standard of service throughout the patient journey. Patients are offered a choice of dates for their surgery or outpatient appointment and if required they will be given a follow up appointment with our specialist dressings nurses.

CSP is also a member of the skin cancer multi-disciplinary team at RUH in Bath and regularly attend their meetings in person or virtually.
